The book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett was first published in 1911 and became one of the best-selling books of the 20th century. With a light and sensitive approach, it addresses complex themes such as the different manifestations of grief, personal growth and transformation, and the magic and healing that come from connection with others, nature, and animals.
As ilustrações foram usadas para materializar, simultaneamente, e os sentimentos complexos em torno do processo de luto e recuperação da protagonista, Mary, de 9 anos. Para isso, foram usados dois estilos de ilustração, conectando mais profundamente ao leitor.

The illustrations were used to simultaneously materialize the complex emotions surrounding the grieving and healing process of the protagonist, Mary, a 9-year-old girl. Two different illustration styles were used to create a deeper connection with the reader.
